Thoughts of Granddaughter Harper Before Dawn

The sound of whistling wings before dawn inspires me. Slow down my pace and shutter speed. Appreciate the grace.

This spawning of a new day so very soon long gone. It may not be clear exactly why it is I’m here. The echo of my future falls on busy ears. No fear enters my awareness. For each day becomes like all the rest. Opportunities I cherish. The next might be the best.

For on that misty bright east horizon a child’s dreams may appear. Harper are you listening? You are in my thoughts my dear. I’d sing your song loudly so everyone can hear.

Back and forth I migrate the time with you so blessed. Right now I bet your feeding. Your mother whispering  a chant of love as you suckle at her breast.

We huddle together and make plans as a family should. All with hopes your tomorrow will be so very good. Right now you have those chubby cheeks and eyes so bright and clear. Rest assured your Grammy will always hold you near.

One day I will take you to the water if I’m lucky. You might see teardrops in my eyes. How wonderful I will be thinking to watch your spirit grow and fly. All your landings may not be graceful. You might even spot a grin. Laughter that will bind us who cares if you don’t always win.

Not soon enough I will stick my old lumpy beak in to the wind. To see you once again. Listening to you chatter as the butterflies on your mogul go round and round. My feet lifted off the ground. When with you I hover. Waiting for the chance. To help you to grow strong. One day to hear you sing a song of joy. The outdoors your new found toy.

  1. I’d like to teach my kids about nature all over again.
