Between The Snow

Yesterday before daylight the clouds broke and the stars came out. A day with a lot of sunshine after a dusting of snow. More snow to come today with 2-4 inches forecast.

A wintry start to February. In the afternoon the starlings would come by the hundreds and land in the yard.

The bluebirds were scratching around but I could not make out what they were after.

Although the bluebirds make me think of spring, the snowy start to February tells me to have patience.

By mid-afternoon the snow had melted off a patch of grass by the deck. The birds started using the deck railings and posts to hunt from. They did not seem to mind me sitting in the shade in my black jacket taking pictures of them.

One pair of bluebirds shared the same post watching in both directions.

One male bluebird gave me the stare when the camera started clicking. The expression made me think of the kids cartoons angry bird. I bet I will be learning about the new cartoons  with our new grandbaby.

A mocking bird also came to the deck and perched. With its tail up I thought about the old hood ornaments cars had.

Looking over the edge of the deck I saw this Robin watching a worm. It gobbled it up in a hurry. Maybe the bluebirds were grabbing worms too? I was surprised to see the worms crawling out of the ground as soon the ground began to thaw. We have not put a bird feeder out here yet. Maybe tomorrow if we get the snow that is forecast.

I did sprinkle a handfull of seed on the deck railing. It was not long until a goldfinch found it. “Thats all folks” as they used to say in the toonies. Have a great weekend.

    New Hampshire Gardener,
He looks angry but just checking me out.

These are great! I especially love the bluebirds. I’ve never been able to get close enough to one for a good shot.

      Montucky,
These bluebirds seem so much plumper than the ones back home in Western Kentucky. They are difficult to approach but these were on the deck and did not notice me to much sitting in the shadows with a black coat on.

Hey Grampy…a little late with my comment here but I just loved the first picture of the house in the morning. I’ve gone back to it several times. It’s such a serene scene. I notice more each time I look at it. I also like the angry bird face too! I miss you Bro! Love ya!!!

We all enjoyed looking at the bird pictures! You got some really good shots…especially the angry bluebird. That is priceless!
